About DevelopmentalHub
COVID-19 Edition

What is the overarching goal?

The overarching goal of DevelopmentalHub is to share psychological research findings on how pertinent topics affect development. Our team hopes to make research accessible to all, one important topic at a time. To do this, we will present separate website editions focusing on one topic per edition.

Who are the creators?

The creators of DevelopmentalHub are from the Desrocher Lab, including Dr. Mary Desrocher, an associate professor of Psychology, registered neuropsychologist, and researcher, as well as her students. The perspective we will be sharing is that of people who have experience in child psychology, clinical psychology, and brain development. Please click here for more information about the Desrocher Lab.

What edition will this be?

This will be the first DevelopmentalHub edition and it will be focusing on the psychological effects that the SARS-CoV-2 virus as well as the COVID-19 pandemic have on development! We will be dividing up development into stages from early childhood through emerging adulthood. We will also be focusing on how pregnant people and parents are affected.

What are the goals of the COVID-19 edition?

1. To provide accessible summaries of existing research studies on the psychological effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19 pandemic on development.

  • This includes the effects on learning, mental health, neurocognitive, and psychosocial outcomes.

2. To conduct further research on the psychological effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19 pandemic via surveys and comments on the site.

  • Although we will be presenting research that has been done by a variety of laboratories across the world, this DevelopmentalHub edition gives us the wonderful opportunity to hear from people who use our site. To learn more about this research, please click here.

Important note: All research that we conduct will go through ethics approval to ensure that we are doing work that is ethical and respectful of people who wish to participate.

Is there anything else I should know about the COVID-19 Edition?

Please note that we will not be presenting medical advice or opinions. As such, we will not be providing summaries of clinical trials on medications or vaccines, nor any discussion of how effective these are in children, adolescents, emerging adults, etc. If you are interested in this type of medical research, a resources page of medical websites that you may find useful will be provided.

The information that will be presented is meant to be an objective summary of what we know about the psychological effects of COVID-19 on development and is not meant to reflect our opinions. We will aim to avoid bias in what we share on the website. If you have any questions or comments about the information presented, clinical psychology, or neuropsychology, please feel free to contact us at developmentalhub@gmail.com

We hope this resource will be helpful in providing information about the effects of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and COVID-19 pandemic on development. One way we can help each other is to share what we know in a kind, respectful way, and we hope this website accomplishes that goal when it is launched!
